Gescha what? Canada can rule.

There was a time when Canada could musically produce only pop-folk music and not much for exporting it. Every attempt of getting in the hip hop music scene with something really cool was kind of a flop. But... wind is changing on canadian artists. And this album is the living proof. Hip hop is a difficult territory to get into. We are into a genre where seems to be very little left to say and to experiment and where is extremely easy to fall into copycat and repetition. This band actually has something new to say. They have good rhythms, they work on music achieving original vibes, and lyrics are just perfectly balanced between interesting and fascinating. Are you looking for more? Gescha are fresh air in the hip-hop ground and I think we're gonna hear more of them.

Best Christmas notes! ...at least for me.

Are you tired of the jingling-tingling-dindongling that's invading your ears everywhere you go? I surely am. So, I wanted to leave my blog for a little Christmas holiday with good sounds on it. Ok, it's Christmas, I can't deny it even if I try, but can we please please make the effort to listen to some decent christmas music? I did it:

and if jingle must be, be like this:

I could go on... but I have to cook a Christmas cake, so Happy Christmas everybody! See you before the year ends C.

Traveling: Chile

There's a place in South America that appears to be far. Farer than every other place in the american continent. Maybe because is just a long and thin strip of mountains that isolate the people that live on the coast. Maybe for its troubled and hard history. I don't know why, but since I was a little girl there was something about Chile that made me imagine that land like a bubble somewhere nowhere. There were these people, artists, musicians, writers, sparse all around the world talking about their lost homeland and telling magical tales in a way that made me sure that this was supposed to be a special land.
Here I found some music from that far place. And still it talks to me in the same way. One day I'll see it with my eyes and I'll know a little more how far it is.

This album is the soundtrack of a movie titled "Mejor no fumes" (You'd better not smoke). It includes a very wide range of styles and genres and collaborations of different artists. The result is a poetical travel in the modern chilean pop music, with accents of rock and songs with beautiful lyrics and open atmospheres.

And this one is a weird mix between pachanga, cumbia and ska and rock and... almost everything. It's funny, danceable, interesting and fresh. Makes me think of a long travel by train. Don't know exactly why.

Another perspective on Chile. This album takes inspiration by the rainforest, the autochthonous populations of ancient south America and their traditions and rituals. I must confess that I've been first attracted by the cover and the title. Pacarina, in fact, were the places where the first inhabitants of Peru and Andes were supposed to come from, sacred places like caves or lakes. And before being humans those people were elements of nature, of the underworld... well isn't this fascinating?

When I listened to this album the first thing I thought were Manà. Then I kept listening and was captured. I like this album a lot. It's a little rough, there's a lot of rock and blues, but it's totally "latino" in its best declination. I can't get tired by the lyrics and I totally love Balcones y taxis.

Bonus Track

This is an original project that I wanted to inlcude in this post. An experiment of "painting" portraits by music. I think that mission was accomplished.

Aux pies nus Cesaria walked away.

Cesaria Evora was one of a kind. She made popular all around the world a music and a place - Cabo Verde - that, if it was not for her, could still be ignored by the most.
Her voice was velvet, her songs were always in an unstable balance between sadness and joy, between Africa and Europe. Between.
And she was that kind of woman that without being a beauty could capture eyes and ears and stand on a stage keeping the audience in her hands, in her soft modulations and breaths.
She was a queen on bare foots. Aux pies nus she always went on the stage and like that, discreet, she went away. Have a nice trip, queen Evora. This is a little tribute.

Lennon, better than ever.

Everybody's been honoring John Lennon in the anniversary of his death (8 december 1980). I'm a little late in this celebration and I must confess that I didn't have particularly deep feelings about this tribute. I'm not a fan of Beatles and if I had to choose I'd go for George Harrison, without a doubt.
But, I can't deny that Lennon represents a mile stone of music of all times, but I am still critical about his idolization. So, here I am trying to find new ways to keep Lennon's name alive without being obvious or boring.
I found some good reasons for this post looking in SoundCloud...

Imagine-a-jump-john-lennon-vs.-van-halen by jackstanleywp
Imagine that? Really? I don't know if van Halen would be pleased to hear this one, but I surely am.

John Lennon vs. Jay Z - Sweet And Sour (B.Chen Mashup) by B.Chen
A little less unprobable, but still surprising. This mashup actually works. And maybe the two of them would be pleased this time.

WORKING CLASS HERO (my tribute to John Lennon) by MariSela MuSik
I am always cautious when it comes to Lennon covers. Most of the time they're way too mellifluous and I can't go over the first minute. Not this time. This one is absolutely beautiful. MariSela is on my fav list from now on.

Fold - Happy Chocolate (feat. John Lennon & Nina Simone) by fold
This is more a beautiful speech than a song. But I like the way it sounds and I think that pairing Lennon and Nina Simone is a very good idea. The base line is also very cool.

Gershwin's here to stay.

Every single person who took a mic in the hands and tried to sing jazz had to cope with the Gershwins (I mean George and Ira). Their standards are a must. You can learn jazz playing them, singing them, staying on the classic path and then trying to skew and change patterns, inventing. The history of jazz has been made on those notes and still they're here, kind of a sound track for all of us jazz lovers, musicians, singers. Old stuff? If it's old, still rocks.

I loves you Porgy
Two different renditions of the same standard. Forget just for few minutes the incredible and unforgettable Nina Simone and retune on something new. Two ways to keep this song alive staying on the traditional (but nicely performed) pattern, or going a little ahead with a touch of modernism that does fit perfectly. Equally beautiful.

Summertime
This is what we should name a hit! There's almost nobody in music world that has not played this tune at least once in the lifetime. So whatever rendition you can think about, probably you'll find it. These are the Summertimes I found worth to be listened to and maybe bought.
Again, there's the classic one and the dary one.

Christmas preview

I know it's a little bit early. But tonight I was coming home from the hospital where I study and I realized that the streets were already decorated with christmas lights and stuff... By the way, I'm going out for a little travel next week, so when I'll come back it will be totally christmas pre-time. And I'll be totally unprepared, like every year. So I thought that it would be alright to take a first look for some good christmas music. And I found this:

A string quartet playing a nice folk and jazzy version of holiday music. Very well played, very enjoyable, very christmas time. It almost made me desire a snowy landscape, a fireplace, and a christmas tree... almost.

Accents of: children's music

This post starts with the Bulgarian voices. Yes, those incredible choirs that are capable of sounds that no other human vocal chord can produce. I just was in the mood for the Bulgarian voices and was listening to some tracks. And in the middle of the tunes I opened I found an album of bulgarian children's music. I was curious and pressed play. My little ones started to dance like crazy saying "more" everytime a track stopped... So that's more or less how this all started. And I guess it may just be the beginning.

I didn't know that bulgarian voices were amazing from the very beginning...

Brasil. Sao Paulo, rhythm and fun and the story of an elefant and a little ladybird. This is good for grownups too.

A children's version of the classics of pop and rock? In Brasil it's possible. And sometimes it's better than the original.

Canticuenticos is a nice project from Argentina that mixes music, visual art, and education. The songs are composed on latin american rhythms and atmospheres, are beautiful and funny. And I love the muñequitos.

Week-end, time for mixtape. I searched something fresh and funky to make this sunny week-end run with the right pace. And I found this one. It's exactly what I was looking for and it's free. It's a nice mix with almost everything you could think of when you want to listen to soul and funky and r'n'b. So what are you waitin'for? Click, download, dance.

The Floyd's still pink

Some days ago I started thinking of some names that really really changed the music of our era. I came up with a few names and one of the first was Pink Floyd. I can't say I am a big fan of their music, but there's no way to underestimate their greatness. I started to wonder what could have been made with their music in these last 20 years, year more year less. And what I found out totally amazed me.

When I saw the title of this album I stopped, stared, and thought "what the hell...". I read all the story and started to do some research on the Internet. Is it true? Is it a big fake? Is it even hypothetically possible that Marvin Gaye and Pink Floyd recorded together? I know this thing's been around for a while, but I still have no answers. What I can surely say is that this album is amazing. Definitely amazing. And free. And if somebody happens to know something, please, please, tell us!

Another great finding. A classical guitar rendition of some of the most popular Floyds tracks.
Boring? Not for a single minute. Wonderful idea on excellent fingers. And Money is my fav.

Moving to the dj's & co places, I found out that dubstep community has an unconditional love for Pink Floyd and has produced some high quality tracks that could all be included here. But I had to choose and I did it just following my taste. If you're curious you could spend a night surfing on Floyd dubstep renditions.

Accents of: trip hop #1

I like Trip Hop. I remember the time when Massive Attack, Portishead or Tricky were on the top. I had a particular eye for Tricky; I was living in Milan and Maxinquaye has been my soundtrack for many single nights and metropolitan working days.
Their popularity had been slowly fading, but I think they left an important inheritance in music. An athmosphere, an aura, that can change it all in a track history. I can't tell exactly what it is. It's like being in a dark room and look at a little source of light, and start seeing something without totally understand what it is. Uncertainty, possibility, that's what I find in trip hop. Don't you? So I found some new excellent names that are keeping the style alive, among the most known many others. My little tribute to all of them:

And The Forest Began To Sing[skän] by [skän]
Almost an hour of the best trip hop of all times. Played around the theme of nature and flowers, it's totally hypnotical, and enjoyable. And download is free. Want more than this?

New York City Slut (Up for download) by Recess!
I'm going to follow the work of these australian guys. I like almost all the tracks I heard, and this one is my favourite at the moment.

Le Passage Des Traboules by Mindpleasure & Friends
From France, the art of mixing styles. Can Swing be twirled around a trip hop line? Yes it can, and it's nice and cool.

Say Blue! third part: the feminine.

I think it's because I miss singing so much. I feel like in my throat there were tons of notes and sounds crowding and pushing to get out. But, matter of fact, a day's got not enough hours to make everything I'd want. So, I listen, and actually I prefer listening to somebody I can relate to or sing on, at least in my shower sessions ;) And when I look for female music I always come out not only with good artists and musicians, but also with peculiar persons, with a story to tell and a personality that comes out of the crowd.
So, what about soul and blues in feminine? Nothing better for my ears, and for my showers...

This artist is an eclectic, soulful, magnetic woman that can surf over different music styles and always be at the top of them. Maimouna Youssef is a Grammy nominated artist with coolaborations that scream out loud "she's damn good". Unforgettable voice, a must have album.

On this side of the Atlantic Ocean there's this beautiful young and talented woman with a deep and velveted voice and an album that can be heard again and again and never gets boring. Somewhere between jazz and reggae and soul. An actual patchwork.

This woman plays the guitar in a way that remembers Steve Ray Vaughan with a plenty of female soul and poetry. Deeply american, somewhat country and blues, but with something special that makes her different from everything I heard before.

Do somebody remember Suzanne Vega? Well I didn't. But it came up in my mind when I found Molly Bryant. Ok, I have to be onest, I'm not exactly euforic about this finding. It's nice, but not my favoured style, nor was Suzanne Vega. But my little one loves her. She dances and sings and smiles, so... do I have to say more?

The Forces of Jazz

This is pretty much the beautiful surprise I was looking for at the end of a hard day. I was looking for something new to hear and I needed jazz,' cause jazz helps me to relax, to refresh my tired neurons and make space for new things in my crowded mind. And there they come out! This is what we could name a strange couple. An austrian saxophonist, Karolina Strassmayer, and an american drummer, Drori Mondlak, joining their forces in a very very successful union. Their music is fresh, somewhat intellectual but never too much introspective to be understood. They both are more than excellent musicians and the tracks of this album are one better than the other, telling stories and not just playing around a theme. Playing and writing with them, equally excellent guitar, Cary DeNigris, and bass, John Goldsby, make the quartet Klaro a group that no jazz lover should miss.

One sting, two sting, many bite!

When I was a little more than a child I had two (alright, maybe three) great loves: one was Prince. I loved him unconditionally, whatever he was doing. The other one was Sting. He was in the second place just because he was a little too blond and a little too british to be my first. But like many first love-s they didn't stop. Here I am, still in love with them (now I'm more focused on the music though). So, here are some different ways to make Police/Sting classics still perfectly alive. I was just a little surprise that with so many cool tracks they produced there are just few of them used for mashing and remixing. Roxanne's on the top... come on guys!

An unexpected version of this song. I really hadn't consider an englishman with umbrella and dubstep beats. Warning: It's contagious.
Sting - Englishman In New York (Free bootleg) by kator

Now two versions of the superclassic Roxanne. We heard it all, and still can't forget the tango version of Moulin Rouge. But still there's plenty of space to work on. My 3yrs old daughter was dancing and jumping to these two, so it should work for everybody.
LeeDM101 - Roxanne's Tainted Fly (The Police / Soft Cell / Miley Cyrus (?!)) by LeeDM101

Put On The RedLight ( Police vs Coldplay ) Dj Lobsterdust by Mixes and Mashups #2

Finally, one of the most played and danced bass lines ever ever. Walking on the moon. This is maybe a little too ambient to my taste, but I think it wasn't bad to chill out a bit.

Traveling: Philadelphia

I've never been in Philadelphia. Not phisically. But there's so much music I love that comes from that city that I think I kind of know it and I wanted to explore a little more the unofficial scene. There's a lot coming out from Philly, in every possible music genre you could think about.
This is a little taste, and maybe there'll be a second part.

Zilla Rocca is one of those underground stars that you surely have met several times, listening to hip-hop projects, without knowing it. He's fertile, productive, smart and the music that comes out of his mind has some of all these qualities. I love this album and the title says a lot about it. Pour a glass of something strong, volume up, and start enjoying.

Philadelphia is not exclusively hip-hop. There's so much music worth to be listened to, and this is a wonderful example. An extremely good band, a perfect melt between rock, funky, electronic and dub and everythings it takes to make you move.

Back to hip-hop. True Philly sound and philosophy with the work of Dumhi, a DJ, a musician and an idea. Music and rhythm are in the spotlight while the mics change and borrow their voices and their skills to the project.

There's something of Badu, and a little of Jill Scott moving around here. This album is beautiful, with athmospheres that fly on soul and r'n b vibes, play with hip-hop and jazz and always come out in the right way. And it's free. Do we need more?

Say White! And make it sound

I spent a long time searching for some good music that could fit the "White" vibe. I knew it wouldn't be easy because white and black are not just colors. There are tons of albums and tracks tagged white, but just few that really got something that reminds white. I chose four examples of what could possibly be, in my mind, a white sound.

This is a strange australian couple of artists. Poetry, music, drawings... in their blog you can get to know them better. But the music speaks alone. It's a little psychedelic, very lirical, aethereal and simple. It's what I thought could be white sound.

White to dance. If you were thinking about the Beatles, forget it. This is jungle and electronic well mixed and shaked.

Let's take a break and relax. This ambient music is what it takes when you just want to lay down and stay still. Meditate, maybe, or take a nap. Quite good, by the way.

This album is quite creepy. I don't exactly get what they mean saying that vocals are from people that are not with us anymore... maybe it's better like that. But this music got something, something special.

Who moves like Jagger?

This is one of those tunes that gets in your mind easily and never gets out, even if you hate it. Let's say it, this track of Maroon 5 will never be a classic. But surely is one of the songs that everyone this summer sang once in the shower. And it seems that almost everyone in SoundCloud community fell into it.
These are my favs:

Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger [Davide Lama Re-Edit] by Davide Lama
Davide Lama (Naples, Italy), takes out of this track the acid and funky flavour and makes it sound quite irresistible. Surely better than the original. Bravo Davide!

Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger ft. Christina Aguilera (ЯETRO Bootleg) by ЯETRO
Different vibe, more relax and chill, by a russian DJ in Idaho. Cool track.

Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger (Merk Hard remix) by MerkOfficial
Staying in Italy, Milan, same track totally different story. This is kinda "boom boom" rendition, but with cool rhythms changes and breaks. Has its own charm and seems to like a lot.

Maroon 5 Ft. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger (Ashworth IV Remix) by AshworthIV
And this is the NYC style taking over. Electric and a little acid. Good beats, makes you move and that's all that counts.

The Soul & the Fela

What do you think could happen if you mix the afrobeat of Fela Kuti with the soulness of De La Soul?
This happens:

This album is a joy for the ears. Is the demonstration that mashing up is not just a copy&paste job. Is about imagination and creating something new from something that has its own life. It's kind of magic.
Amerigo is very good in mashing things. And this album is free. Totally a download must. And you don't want to miss the previous albums.

Miles around

With this post I open a new section dedicated to revisiting the classics of music history. I thought it could be interesting because sometimes we tend to think that some figures are kind of untouchable, but actually they're not. On the contrary I think that the best music is the music that you can keep using, modifying and modeling and still remains great. I also thought that one of the best example in music history of this concept of music "plastic" was Miles Davis.

Cuba, la musica es mujer!

I have Cuba in my heart. So I keep an eye on everything comes from there, most of all the music, almost always excellent music. I can't help sharing this documentary about an extraordinary orchestra where the musicians and the director are all women. They play classical cuban music, with amazing arrangements and great art and technique. But behind the concerts and the music are the stories of these women, beautiful stories of dedication and hard work to achieve a goal.
This is the Cuba I have in my heart.

Traveling: South Africa

I can't think of a weirder place than South Africa. The nature takes your breath away, and people is the strangest mix of colours and languages and cultures that you can think about. And there's this deep, souring wound of recent history hidden almost everywhere. I've been in S.A. just for few days, but I definetely want to go back and stay longer cause I totally fell in love with the place. This is a little musical journey in that different world.

This is the kind of folk album that I can listen over and over without getting bored. There's blues in it, and beautiful verses, and this soft, kind of nostalgic athmosphere that totally traps you. Beautiful.

When I think of S.A. music I immediately think "voices". And Moloi is one of the most promising voices of the south african panorama. Born in Soweto, raised in the U.S, there's a little of this and a lot of that in his work. But most of all, there's this incredibly soft and versatile voice.

Speaking of mixed things... this album has a little bit of everything: dubstep, reaggae, hip hop and this political and angry lyrics that are worth a listening.

I chose this album cause I have kids and I know how hard it is to find good kids music. When I saw the smile on my little ones faces I knew this one was good.

Bonus track:

Goapele is one of the best NuSoul voices ever. She belongs to the golden era of Maxwell and Floetry, before the big bang with D'Angelo, Badu & co. So here she is, with her page on BandCamp and some beautiful tracks where her voice still brights.

Black in the 80's

I was searching around trying to put together some music for my new post tagged Black. And I stepped into this album. Firstly I didn't recognize the name, but when I saw the track list I had kind of a flash-back. Wonderful life? "that" wonderful life? Yes, that one. Back to 1987 mr.Colin Vearncombe aka Black made it up to the top-ten with this tune that became quite a classic of the 80's. Then he kind of desappeared, like many stars of that period. And, there he is, BandCamping with this very new album. He's quite freezed in the 80's but still sounds good. Same warm voice, same sweet feeling.

Time to Re-Otis

If Jay-Z and Kanye West make a tribute to Otis Redding is kind of inevitable there'll be a big fall out. A lot of musicians, artists, djs and so on are rethinking one of the biggest ones and that's good for us. Because there's nothing wrong in revisiting, remixing, re-editing music like Redding's. That music will just never die. Not easy to make it better, just different. And different's good enough.

Hard to Handle - Otis Redding (Hawk Edits re-edit) by Jackmaster Hawk
The real thing. Re-edited, and done pretty well!

Otis feat. Otis Redding by watchthethrone
Amd this is the Jay/West idea. Absolutely not a bad idea.

Otis Redding - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (scratchandsniff re-rub) by scratchandsniff
Is there anybody who doesn't know this one? No way. Another good re-edited version.

Dj Czech Vs Otis "Hard to Handle" by Dj Czech
This tune comes from unsuspicious times... maybe JayZ or Kanye heard it?

Accents of: September

Back in my place, everything starts again. It's September, a month that I don't exactly love, but there it is. For many many people September will always be 9/11, and all it comes with. For others it's just autumn coming up, everybody back to work, study, lines in the tube, falling leaves, rain ... I don't actually share all that autumn poetry thing, so I try to get some from music.

First of all, a little tribute, thinking about ten years ago.

This is not a new album, but I think it has the right sounds, perfectly fitting the title. A nice mix between jazz and hip-hop, cool and warm at the same time.

Maybe I'll regret this choice...This italian post-rock group it's definitely far from my favourite kind. Too many guitars, too much rock, too much crashes and rides ;)) But they're good, and I like it, yes I do. And maybe you'll like it too. I'm open minded for god sake!

Back into myself. I chose to link a track and not the whole thing just to stick to the title of this post. But this work it's absolutely worth of listening from A to Z. Coolest rhymes on coolest grooves.

Accents of: vacations!

I'm going on vacation!! Quite late, but better than never... So, I'm leaving tomorrow, destinations unknown, heading South. Ok, I'm already at South, I live by the sea, but vacation is different, souther, more beaches, clearer sea, totally different.
I wanted to leave with a proper soundtrack for sun, fun (poetic license), and stuff:

This is my little gift for the people that can't enjoy the sea sight and sounds, as I do. Waves, waves and more waves. For a hot summer night if you want to be cradled by the sea.

Who better than a ocean scientist can get music out of the sea?

For more traditionalist people, this album is the super classic beach&surf pop music, by a Florida band.

This album is kind of out of my usual taste, but I liked so much the first track that I had to listen the others. And it's good, really good. A pinch of folk but something more than folk.

Jill's back in da house!

Jill Scott is one of the best female voices of our generation. She sounds so soulful, and funky, not only great voice, but excellent writer. She kind of disappeared for a while. But she's back and she's totally at her best! Check out two of her tracks directly on her Soundcloud page and, if you have always liked her, take a journey on some different versions of her hits.

De Montreal a la Habana

I found this album looking for some new music tagged Cuba. I stopped and listened. And I liked it. It's kind of a weird product, with this strange voice, a little too much melancholic, a little too much gentle. But there's the rough sound of the direct registration, the cuban percussion, so thick and contrasting, and a good bass, and that contrast between the foggy, cold environment of the tunes and the warm and velvety sound of the cuban band. I found it kind of magic.

Accents of: Bass

Electronic, electric, acoustic, contrabass... when I listen to music the sound of bass is the first line that attracts me. No matter what kind of bass and what genre of music, those vibrant waves full the space of something that lies between melody and armony. Sometimes you could even recognize a music just by the vibrations that your body receives by the bass, without earing it.
Looking for a selection of bass tagged albums I found that there are very few things, but some of them are absolutely worth of a post. Like these:

This man is kind of a genius. This album is not new, but is really amazing. Bass tunes totally fascinating. Beautiful sounds, nice variations of rhythms between jazz and latin classics. I fell in love with this album at the first notes.

Totally different ambient but same great talent. Here you can find a bunch of tunes that celebrate the authentical funky and rock and american electric bass, with a sense of originality that makes each tune a surprise.

Hip hop inspiration, jazzy declination, for another bass player that steps outside of the mass.

I wanted to include in this selection the sound of contrabass. And I found this artist, from Israel, that didn't publish an album but a selection of single tunes, all played with different types of basses. I chose this tune because it's original, well played, and evocative. Try to surf around in his page and you'll find other nice suprpises.

How to roll with Adele

I like Adele's voice. But I must admit that I can't listen to more than two tracks without getting bored. Then I found that Rolling in the deep is one of the most mixed&mashed songs of the year and that surfing through the different versions was absolutely fun. I chose five of the best tunes but if you don't get tired you could spend an entire night rolling in different levels of deep.

Adele vs Swamburger - Rolling in the Sun Vibes (Jimi Needles Light Night Cocktail) by Jimi Needles
This is the coolest version I found and - judging by the number of the comments - I'm not the only one. The funky bass line is just irresistible and perfectly mashed with the melodic line. Great work!

ADELE Vs JAMIROQUAI - WHEN YOU GONNA LEARN TO ROLL (110 BPM @daftbeatles MASHUP) by DAFT BEATLES
Funky and acid version. Perfectly mashed, precise bpms and tuning, astonishing melted. I don't exactly understand the logic of 1:50 sounds but it's ok, just personal taste.

Adele vs. Mashup Allstars - Rolling in the Deep (Platten-Karton's Moombahton Edit) by Platten-Karton
This one was totally unlikely. I mean, if somebody told me I would've said noo way. But... here it is. And in its original, unconventional way, it works!

Madonna vs. Adele - Holiday In The Deep (Stelmix 4' Mashup ROUGH EDIT) by MixmstrStel
I think that Adele is definetely an 80's singer. So what's wrong in mashin her up with Madonna? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Adele vs Will Smith (WKF Mashup) by WKF Productions
Bonus track: I couldn't resist. No comments, just step on your feet and pump the volume up! Black suit, please.

Traveling: Ibiza

It's August. The sun is totally shining, nights are warm and long. Time to dance on the sand, chillout till dawn or watch the sunset with the people you love. There's no place in the world that recalls this kind of atmospheres as Ibiza. A little, beautiful island in the spanish Mediterraneo that has become homeland for the best dance music in the world. Want to taste it and take it home?
Here we go:

Deep down to the roots of the Ibiza's groove. This compilation comes from the past but it's so extremely fresh and contemporary. Lacks just the sea taste. The rest is all here.

Jumping to 2009, this album is a good example of the most "typical" Ibiza spirit: two dj's (one from London one from Ibiza) working together to create this peculiar, irresistible trance sound that has become the hallmark of Ibiza night parties.

Another sound, different vibes, still totally fascinating. French roots, spanish inspiration. Much more electronic and rhythm mixed with the right amount of coolness and chillout. Maybe it's rage, but of the nice ones.

Ibiza's not only trance and chillout and smooth athmospheres. There are lots of music movements under the island sun. And this is an example of the spanish rap wave that goes around por allà.

In Bonny's soul

This album is surely a great finding. Miles Bonny has a talen that can't pass unnoticed. There's not a single tune in this work that I didn't like, and most of them are definetely excellent. There's not much more to say when you find the real music, and the real soul. Just listen to it and, if you fall in love with Miles notes, you may want to take the time to check the previous albums.

Bye Amy.

I come late. But here I am, extremely sad. I hope her soul keeps singing somewhere around here. Bye Amy.

Great tribute, with beautiful versions of Amy's hits.

Stronger Than Me (Flatline Remix) - Amy Winehouse RIP by Flatline London
Dubstep version of the most popular songs she sang. Moving and kind of melancholic.

"Back To Frank" Funky DL samples Amy Winehouse [click "buy this set" to download for FREE!!] by funkydl
This is a hip hop version of the whole Frank album. It's been made in unsuspicious times and I think it sounds extremely good. If you want to download, it's free.

Amy Winehouse - Stronger Than Me (Daims Moombahsoul Edit) by DAIMS&CHRISUPREME
Another version of Stronger than me, totally different. Good vibe, cool beat, I would just kill that ah-uh thing... anyway, I like it.

Say Summer! And make it sound.

I'm so totally focused on my med exams that I didn't realize it's soooo summmer now. I see people on the beach from my windows, having fun and getting tanned. Me, I have to wait one more week. Meanwhile I was looking for an appropriate soundtrack. To make my summer begin...

This work came out just a month ago. When I heard it I decided it could be my new fav for sunset hour on my terrace. I love this album. It's extremely cool, and full of different nuances, perfect for summer nights and for smiles. And, it's free. First of the list.

And this... this one is for summer mornings!! I absolutely want to wake up with this tunes on my alarm clock. Come on, could you resist to the Domeshaker track? Another free download. I've been so lucky this time.

Could you imagine something more "summery" than Hawaii? Beach, surf, waves, flip flops, bbqs, reaggae and pop. Nice and fresh. Like a mojito under a palm shadow.

In this case, there's no summer in title or band name. Summer is one of the tags and is in the mood of this album. For hip hop lovers certainly a nice finding. Kind of Philadelphia sound, even if it's from Seattle. There's something warm and slow that makes this music perfect for summer afternoons and evenings. Or, for people like me, for eternal study sessions.

Buen viaje Facundo! Esta es una pequeña despedida:

Sliding The Doors

Fourty years have passed but the legend stays. Was Jim Morrison the only secret for The Doors success? Maybe. But their music is still around and apparently here to stay fourty more.
I don't want to be kind of blasphem but I have to admit that I totally prefer some of the new versions on the original ones. When it comes to Seventy's music I stick to Hendrix & co. Morrison? ok, but...

The Doors - Riders on the Storm (Alex Justino & Renato Borges remix) by Alex Justino
Riders on the storm is the most mixed&mashed Doors song. It kinda fit everywhere and anyway. This house version is hot!

Mashup-Germany - Ante up to the other side by MashupGermany
Let's take away some drama around the whole Doors thing! This mashup is irresistible, fresh and funny altogether.

Jim Morrison and Chali 2na - We are stoned by Dr.Goon
For Morrison fans, this is a beautiful tribute with a cool base. Dance and listen.

Riders On the Storm-THE Doors remix by Rowman by ROWMAN
Another extremely cool version of The Storm. Nice sounds, perfect bpms.

Black love me two times (El Bosso Bootleg) - The Doors vs Goose & The Bloody Beetroots by El Bosso DJ
Bonus track! Rock and electronics for this wild remix. I couldn't leave it out of this post ;)
