Celebs like Camp: Sergent Garcia

Who says that Bandcamp, SoundCloud and whatever there's out there on the net for musicians and artists in general is just for wannabes? There are lots of well known people who know how to reach their fans using these tools.
Sergent Garcia is one of them. He's always been on the other side of music system, and now, after 5 years of silence, he's chosen the www to make his coming back, free and independent, as always.

Covers and mashups: Ms Dynamite and Massive Attacks

Playing with famous tunes sometimes can bring life to something totally new, and beautiful.

Dy-Na-Mi-Tee (Ms Dynamite cover) by The unused word
This is a trip-hop, psycho version of a not really great song of some times ago. I have to say that I prefer this one to the original.

Eminem Vs Massive Attack - Going Through Teardrop by Xzentric
Nice nice work! Good mashing between Massive Attack, Linkin Park and Eminem. What comes out sounds chilly and new.

Traveling: France

France is the second prolific music producer, after US, with a lot, really a lot, of music online. There's something for every taste, from punk rock, to latin, afro, hip hop... Personally I find something special in the way french artists decline hiphop and jazz. There's always a smooth accent, even in the rawest tune. Something so irrefutably french.

A long music marathon that can keep you dancing and listening for a good while. Hazel is a bandcamp topseller, and these tracks are worth the effort of buying.

Soul music, with good vibes, great vocals, and beautiful french lyrics. And free! What else?

Back in '77 with this beautiful album, made of plenty of real instruments, latin influences, and that 70 funky accent that make you want to put on your platforms and flower-power dress, and just dance.

This is exactly what I mean when I think of french sound. Jazzy, somewhat acid, but still smooth, sexy.

Outsiders: Jazz from Iceland

Sometimes it happens. You find music that doesn't fit in any category but good music.
That's the case.

An excellent piano player, a well mixed group. They come from Reykjavik, but could be anywhere, cause this music stands up for itself.

Accents of: Trumpet

I surfed, and digged, and searched. But it's not been easy to come out with trumpets that really took my attention or made me want to add the tracks on my playlist.
Here's what I liked best:

Very good idea giving voice to some underestimated names of jazz, particularly trumpet jazz. And very good sound. Definetly on the playlist.

Staying in New York, some more jazz with this beautiful ensemble. Don't miss the free track
Queensborough Bridge Stomp.

From France an original acoustic ensemble: vocals, violin, cello, bass, trumpet and drums. Not exactly easy listening, but fascinating.

High quality jazz, between Brooklyn and Toronto. With trumpet and fatherhood feelings in first line.

Say Red! And make it sound

Again I go hunting the sound of a color. And now it's red. I was surprised to find out that red takes a dramatic advantage on blue when it comes to tags, titles, band's names and so on...
Any idea?

That's almost exactly what I was thinking about when looking for a red sound. Lovebettie music makes you wanna stand up and jump around, or sing out loud while driving in a desert road. Totally red.

This guy has dedicated to colors four digital albums. There's blue (I think I missed it before), yellow, green and red.

Imagine a Punjabi bride, all covered in her bridal dress. Imagine the party all around her, the dances, the banquet, the flowers. Now say a color: Red! Of course.

This is a "bonus track" in the red playlist. The band, Bamboo, is an australian emerging star. This track is a one piece, and is quite "old", but still, is absolutely Red.

Accents of: Cello

I love cello. It's an instrument capable of amazing things.
Surfing around I found some cello players you maybe want to have in your playlist.

Takenobu is a bandcamp celebrity. And if you get around NY area maybe you could see him performing live. I'd say he reminds me of Sakamoto, but I might sound obvious.

Here's another web music star. Zoe Keating is a red headed woman with a cello and a lot of electronic to develop her ideas. She sold a lot of music, and guess why: she's good!

What can you do with a drum and a cello? You can do this! Or at least, they can.
Free download. Don't miss it.

Traveling: Spain

The places I know and the ones I'd like to know. I start with Spain, but never know where sound can bring you when you start following it.

You say Spain, you think guitars. And it's not just stereotype. There are so many fresh ideas coming out from flamenco, and guitars. And this is a good example, from Barcelona.

This is just one piece in a wide range of declinations of contemporary spanish music composed by a talented cello player. It's not easy. But definetly interesting. Give also a try to Toccata for piano solo.

This is not a band. Is a project to give more voice to the massive movement of music composers and song writers that populate Madrid music scene. Every month a meeting in a club, and a collection of live music.

This is the spanish pop that Europe knows better by other names. But in Spain Ferreira is a travel-a-lot ensemble. You can listen to them live even in children concerts. If you happen to be in Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid...check the dates out.

Say Blue! and make it sound..

What happens if you try surfing the net looking for the sound of a color? And what if that color is blue?
You could surf forever...
Or start from here:

This guy is from Los Angeles and he could be like... 17? But when it comes to music, he's worth a download. And it's free.

This is kind of "omg they're reaaally good". They're blue as an apple can be, and if the apple is a city you know what we're talking about. Free download. Could you live without?

This is light blue, but still blue. The voice of Cecilia Stalin is beautiful and elegant, the tracks are tasty London electronic jazz.

And this is dark blue. I would say black-blue. Hip hop from Detroit, with a story to tell and 14 tracks to tell it all.

Day 1. Intensive BandCamping

This people come from Edinburgh. 14 tracks that fly between deep dub-techno, dubstep, drum and bass, future garage and more. And they fly high.

Paris is cool. Soooo cool. And Nicky Lars sounds Paris. Hip hop? Nu soul? You name it. And it's Free!

Where will the music revolution come from? I bet on Cuba. Waitin' for that, check this beat out. Particularly track8. Real fusion.
